Hi hikers and readers,
Yesterday, after a full day teaching and a night at the base camp, under light snow We started at 7 h. 40 m. from the Garden parking in a windy condition.
With 2" of new snow We take the decision to put on the snowshoes. without trouble to cross the brooks, but the snow was more deep around one foot of new dry powder at the second Marcy-Haystack junction!!! slow progress!!!
Over the trees line When We arrived on the top before the Haystack-Basin junction We took the decision too wendy to take a chance with little Haystack, contourned by the right without spruce trapps!
We covered all the skin We was able before to pass over the trees line.
Ski poles essential to resist at the wind.
Short time in the summit just touch the hight point and turned with the wind in the face!!!
The wind changed us in a leave and We flight for around 10 feet!!!! strange sensastion, fortunately the arrivage was without injure, We need to stop many time, just wayting for a relative calm wind!!
Same one foot new snow between Haystack and the rocky place in Saddleback.
When We saw the icy condition when We started to go down Basin at the usual spot but more important as usual, We think may be We will have trouble over the trees line in Saddleback!!!
The premonition was good!!!!
Icy and windy, We take the decision to pass by the chicken place, unfortunately the place was cover by the ice.... after a couple of tries We take the decision to go down and find a place to cross the new slide since Floyd tale in a sticky forest!!
The second attemp a second wall without possibily to cath the summit, down, crossed a other icy slide....We can not take a chance, when will they find the body? if they can find the body....
The third attemp in a very steep place with a very slow progress. We can find the path. Ouf!!!!!!! Tired..... but happy!
Just go to touch the Saddleback summit and start to return at the parking.
Fortunately peoples hiked Gothics the same day and We have nice and relaxe snowshoes tracks after the junction.
Need the head lamp near John Brook Lodge too the parking....time hike 10 hours 56 minutes a new record!!!!!
Junior was sleeping all the car trip to return at my home....a long day!!
Pinpin Junior.
P.S. A other day when We closed eyes with this mind We lived today do not just existed!!!
