Left the Slamdog after downing a 10 oz cheeseburger and a platter of fries.
Did a little quick rinsing and drying of gear , and headed for the garden.
Quickly saddled up and beat feat for JBL. Made it as far as Howard leanto and decided to hold up till morning due to impending darkness.
( and the fact that i was still whipped from the day before on the Sewards.)
Met up with a group from PA (Amy Stacy and Wes) They had just returned from the Wolfjaws and Gothics. The next morning i was up early and headed for Bushnell falls. Unfortunately the others were headed back to PA, and going the oposite direction. Hooffed it to Bushnellfalls leanto #1. Dropped my pack and moved on to Haystack. By now the sun was shinig royally and i was pumped to enjoy the day. Had the summit of Haystack all to my self, and a
360 degree view to die for. After a half hour soaking in all i could and taking numerous pictures i decided i should head for Basin.
Passed one other hiker on the way and thats all i saw the rest of the day
I was impressed by the ruggedness of the terrain going up and over Basin, only to be awed by the steep face of Saddleback. Slamdog had warned me about Saddleback , But after hiking with him for the past few decades I thought perhaps it was more his inept physical ability than degree of difficulty.
( just kiddin Slam, Who loves ya baby?) I know "" evabody funny now you funny too"". Any way To say the least he wasnt exagerating.
At times i thought to my self I hope no one is watching me right now as they are laughing their pants off. I felt like a spider clinging to a windshield at fifty miles per hour. Made it over the top and dropped my way back down.
Arrived back at the Leanto at 5pm in time to enjoy a nice leasurely dinner.
Tuesday morning arrived to very overcast skies. I was hoping to do Tabletop.
Headed out about 6:30, and by 8 it was beginning to rain. Soon after there was a quick flash of lightning and then the ground shook. Realizing i was holding two lightning rods in my hands i quickly threw them down the trail and curled up into a ball. After waiting for the bulk of the storm to blow thru i decide i had had enough for the day and bailed out back to the leanto.
Took a little nap whilst i waited for the rain to stop and about noon i decided to head for the Ausable inn.
