I can remember when I was a kid.....oh I must have been in the 10-12 range. There was a mountain we climbed and I am pretty sure it was Haystack. Not sure what town it was near but it was not a bad climb. I can also remember seeing our truck from the top. Does anyone know if that is the name of the mountain or hill :D and where it is? I don't think it is part of the NE115. It seemed to small even when I was 10 :p

Thanks for the longshot!

There is a Haystack Mountain in Northern Maine that I did last year that may fit the description. It's in Castle Hill (Aroostook County) right off of RT 163. It's a rather easy hike (1142') and easy to get to the trailhead. It seems like a popular area hike based on the volume of visitors when I was there.

Not sure if this is the one...

Thanks Bill! I am pretty sure that was the one. I know we were close to the Canadian Border as well. You could see Canada from the summit. Is this part of the 115? Or just a fun side trip :)

B)Fun Side Trip as all the 4000rs are in baxter state park (3), the rangeley area (10), and Old Speck, by Newry...

But it is on the Haystack (state) list :)D :p)

Roy has correctly identified my stealth mission to Haystack :)

I didn't expect to find much left from the old wooden fire lookout that was built there in 1914. The Maine Forestry District tore down the tower and burned the watchman's camp in the spring of 1918. They even collected the old phone line and insulators, so they really cleaned up after themselves!
