I just have to mention the glory of Bryce Canyon. To get there, we drove the Mt Carmel tunnel and the East side where all the trailheads and possibilities had us drooling and we nearly gave up on bothering with Bryce. Luckily we didn't.
We hiked the Fairyland Loop/Rim Trail which is 8 miles long and only took 4 hours with about 200 stops for photos. I buried some of my late dog's ashes at the base of a bristlecone pine. We had plenty of energy left to visit the viewpoints along the canyon, partake of the Cowboy Buffet at Ruby's Inn (do not bother trying Squatter's Pale Ale, a Utah brew; what was I thinking?), and drive 2 hours home through Kanab.
Everyone should see it before it crumbles into dust. Fantastic formations of brilliant orange and pink - this is truly a case of pictures speaking louder than words.
The only drawback was that I couldn't have y'all there to share the wonders.
Thanks to everyone for the good advice. Little Bear, now I see what I couldn't see in your pictures without being there.
Next year, Capitol Reef and Escalante!
