Hike recommendations in the Reno-Lake Tahoe area ?

A friend of mine is heading for a hiking trip in the Sierras later this summer. He'll be flying into Reno, Nevada with an extra couple of days before he continues on for his trip. He's looking for some ideas for short day hikes in the Reno- Lake Tahoe area, hikes that he can use to try to get acclimated to altitude. Anyone have any hikes in the 4-6 mile range with moderate elevation gain so I can pass them along?
