Hiked Camel's Hump on Friday with a friend an our dogs, and ran into a LOT of 12 year-olds. According to someone my friend Trish chatted with at the trail head, some schools in Vermont have a "hike Vermont day" where they give the kids the day off to go hiking. I may have some details wrong (my dog does not like crowds or kids, so we didn't stay to chat) - has anyone heard of this?

I think it's a great idea, assuming you can organize the kids so they actually DO hike.

... some schools in Vermont have a "hike Vermont day" ...
Almost, but not quite!

From Join the 13th Annual Hike for Hunger This Fall!:
Dozens of schools across Vermont are signed up for the Vermont Campaign to End Childhood Hunger’s 13th annual Hike for Hunger, taking place during the month of October 2009. This school-based special event inspires students to walk, climb, and hike across the state to raise money and awareness for hunger and nutrition issues facing Vermont’s children.

Google knows EVERYTHING :D or  (your choice!).

It does, alas, and it gave me too much of what it knows sometimes - I missed that in my search somehow.

Way cooler than the field trips I got to do in school!
