This was just on the news: HIKERS LOST
Maine Game Wardens continue their search this afternoon for a pair of lost hikers on the Maine-New Hampshire border.
Wardens say the two called on a cell phone last night to report that they'd become lost while hiking Old Speck Mountain in Newry.

Wardens who are searching the area say it's possible the hikers crossed into New Hampshire.

Mark Latti of the Warden Service says the search is limited to the ground because the rainy weather is keeping aircraft grounded.

Latti identifies the missing men as Michael Hawkins and Ryan Weeks, both in their 20s and from the Augusta area.

The pair spent the night in the woods and had jackets, but Latti says that as the rain continues hypothermia is becoming more of a concern.

AP wire report said:
NEWRY - Two men who became lost hiking in western Maine have made their way out of the mountains.

Mark Latti of the Maine Warden Service said police received a call shortly before 1 p.m. on Friday from the hikers, who said they had made their way to a gravel road. Police were on their way to pick them up.

Wardens said the hikers called on a cell phone Thursday night to report that they became lost while hiking Old Speck Mountain in Grafton Township, near the New Hampshire border.

Latti said the search was limited to the ground because the rainy weather was keeping aircraft grounded.

Latti identified the missing men as Michael Hawkins and Ryan Weeks, both in their 20s and from the Augusta area.

The pair spent the night in the woods and had jackets, but Latti said that hypothermia was becoming a concern as the rain continued.

The forecast for the higher summits This weekend contains some challenges, a lot like last year at this same time.

A wet and warm coastal low is arriving in concert with a cold and dry Alberta Clipper. Abundant moisture and telling temperature gradients. Kaka.

Here in West Bethel tonight we're seeing thunder and lightening, heavy rain, gusty winds. The forecast is not good, so secure yourself for your attempts in the 4K's this weekend.

Mt Washington Summit.. building open until 10/22 1800hrs. No food, no concessions, pee call OK.

NO RIDES DOWN as of today, the Summit Stage is done and locked up.
