On April 1st, 4 merry hikers left a rustic cabin in Vermont to tramp on some green space on the Long Trail. Little did they know the April Fool Squad as these 5 were later to be known, bestowed upon their heads, silly hats. And off they went.

Daxs the dragon, Le MCorsar, Jay "propeller head" H, and TMax, the pig's behind. and honorary Fool - Sherriff Fmax. all spent the weekend frolicking in the woods of VT and MA.

Saturday, we tramped north on the LT/AT to about the vincinity of Scrub Hill. Although not a long hike by any means, with not much open views, we just decided to go check out the scenery and enjoy the woods, a foolish goal for a foolish squad. The front was coming in and it was obvious due to the change in temps, the picking up of the wind, that any fool could see rain/hail was imminent so we turned around a bit before our destination (which was a small pond north of Scrub Hill). I think we did about 8 or 9 miles RT and hiked back to the camp.

On Sunday, our change of plans had us hiking up Mt Greylock, various routes were discussed on Saturday. I've already done the trail as a loop from the AT southbound over williams and fitch to the Hopper to Sperry road campgrounds down the money brook trail. This time we decided on the faster Bellow's Pipe ascent and then possibly a return on the Bernard's Farm trail. We had the luxury of having TMax pick us up because she was taking the day off due to her injury from the ADK Peggy O Brien trip. So we decided to call her upon our return.

Ran into LattinHill and Pat and Maya on the way up but didn't know it, then ran into Torn N Frayed on the summit and then Jade, SilentCal, RocknRolls, and the others all at the summit, so it was a mini-VFTT gathering, I would say.

Enjoy the pictures, sunday was definitely the much better day to hike.

Jay-nice trip report -I'm still grinning at the pics! It was a totally unexpected pleasure to meet you, Carol and Matt up there and maybe our paths will cross again someday.

Last weekend was a blast despite the rain on Saturday. And if you do not have fools hats to wear on April 1st then any type of silly hat counts. I know Matt was VERY disappointed that he could not wear his jaunty beret on Sunday. Sheriff FMax was the best anyone could ask for in a host. It was great meeting new VFTT folks and having an impromtu gathering atop Greylock. Hmm What type if silly headwear is next; first devil horns, then silly hats. What can we do foe the Presi hike?

Rocksnrolls:

I would suggest powdered wigs in honor of the early presis' prefered headwear!

Hey, that's a good idea... And we can carry hammers for the "Pounding" part.. Imagine the strange looks... Yeah, I like that.

It was very fun running into folks on the Devil's Path 2 years ago wearing my devil horns. Most people inquired as to the hat, some folks just tryed to ignore that they just saw a hiker with devil horns. It was a lot of fun!

It was even more fun to wear them on a night hike to Overlook Firetower during the catskills gathering....

Goes to show it's never a dull hike...

I like the idea of powered wigs. I don't know about carrying a hammer or mallet though on the hike. Its gonna be long and hard enough without the extra weight.

nice report and pictures, Jay.
(what a bunch of fools...)
;)

Powdered wigs on Presis' Day is a great idea. You could get all sorts of traditions started.
I buried a plastic egg with a note in it in a cairn on Marcy on Easter about 30 years ago.

Thanks for the TR Jay. Nice job! But you forgot to mention two important points, the new inflatable girlfriend and the squirrel porn. Now with those things mentioned, I'll bet everyone wants to be a hiking fool! :D

I absolutely agree with some sort of "motif" for the Pond the Presi's hike. But it has to be realistic! I for one am not hiking with a wig. My own hair is more than enough to contend with :). But I would go for an inflatable boyfriend, umm... I mean hammer :D .

Thanks TONS to Sheriff FMax for being such a grand host-- Luv ya Dad (stop lurking and start posting!;))

Insta-mates on the hike?? Why didn't I think of that? Can't imagine the gal/boy pals would offer any warmth on the overnighters....
I think our groups should hike together sometime....we seem to share a similar sense of humor!!
It was fun running in to you all.....hope TMax is on the mend....looking forward to pounding the he** out of the Presis...powderwigs for photo op then leave 'em in the car.....

Hey you guys are a killer! What a great time you must have had. I thought I was nuts when I used to wear a fuzzy toilet seat cover for a hat at work... but never had the nerve to wear it on a hike! Thanx for the great pics and report.
