A little bushwhack along the N face of the hill South of Winch Pond, near Wilmington Notch. (We were going to see if there was a cliff on the South side of the hill, but travel was so difficult, we didn't bother to go over the hill to the South side.)
We took the trail to the pond, then bushwhacked East around the pond, and onto the hillside overlooking the pond. Travel was generally terrible, with very thick, wet woods and talus in places. We completed our loop by returning West to the pond at its outlet, and crossing there back to the trail.
Here and there we came across bits of game trails and slight herd paths.
On the way down the hill near the pond outlet, we found a couple places where colored pipe cleaners (red and blue, blue and yellow) had been twisted onto a couple branches, apparently to mark a route. We joked that the only people who ever climb this hill are us, and PCM (Pipe Cleaner Man).
PCM, are you out there?
