FLUFF PREVENTION: No stoner jokes.

I'm thinking about taking the family up to the Liberty Springs platforms for an overnight Memorial Day weekend but would like to think it won't be over-run and fully occupied. Any input on % chances of not being turned away would be appreciated.

Someone (Una-Dogger?) recently posted that the caretakers don't begin in the Whites until June, but added that they'd be surprised if the caretakers weren't up there for Memorial Day weekend. If they really don't begin the caretaker season until after Memorial Day, my bet would be that the chances of you being turned away would be slim. But I wouldn't bet that much. I'm just not much of a gambler. :) It can still be cold up there nights that time of year. Another reason only hard-core hikers like you would make the overnight trek thus increasing the chance of you being able to stay.
Is this fluff because it is merely speculation? I've never actually camped out there in May.

Chances are that the tent platforms will be full on Memorial Day weekend. If you want to camp up there head up early on Saturday, or better yet, on Friday afternoon.

A few years ago, the missus and I went to Liberty Spring on Memorial Day weekend. We left early on Saturday morning and had no trouble getting a spot, but the site did fill up. My advice: send the kids ahead to lie down and claim a parking space. :D

Liberty Springs is very popular on most weekends, especially holiday weekends. If you can't get there early enough, there are some very nice, legal spots up on the ridge. Just remember to stop for water on your way up!
