The first article suggests duct tape. A bad suggestion...
Duct tape glue can turn gummy and must be cleaned off before a proper repair is possible.

If you use repair tape, it is a good idea to sew the patch down when you get home. Otherwise, the edges can peel up.

I think the duct tape recommendation was tongue-in-cheek. Someone here once suggested the McNett Tenacious Clean Tape, mentioned in the article, which I now carry for quick repairs. 2 years ago my crampons shredded my precip pants. I used this stuff and they are "like new", no need to replace or repair further. This tape is very nylon and outdoors friendly.
