Trails: Huntington Ravine Trail, Nelson Crag, Great Gulf Trail, Six Husbands Trail, Buttress Trail, Abandoned Adams Slide Trail, Gulfside, Jefferson Loop, Sphinx, Madison Gulf, Old Jackson Road

Trail Conditions: Huntington Ravine needs to be trimmed back after the Fan and to below the first scramble, branches are overtaking the trail and lots of hidden roots, rocks, small holes that could trip you up. The first scramble has some slippery parts because of all the rain from the summer, almost like a slime in one place. Other than that the trail is fine. Great Gulf Trail from the headwall to Spaulding Lake has a bunch of loose boulders from the Irene slide, there are blazes in spots and some cairns here and there but not too many. The trail is a river with waterfalls in spots, gets a little slippery but very refreshing. From Spaulding Lake to the Six Husbands Trail junction the trail has standing water in spots, muddy in others. The water crossings are fine, just a little washed out near the banks. Six Husbands Trail water crossing of the West Branch was rock hop-able with care. When you come down to the the crossing the trail is across the river and to the right, not to the left where there is a herd path to nowhere. Buttress Trail Water crossing is rock hop-able. When making the crossing the trail is across the brook and to the left, to the right is a clearing and herd paths where it looks like people set up tents. Adams Slide Trail has been abandoned for 40 years but there are still some red blazes here and there. Hard to follow in spots, other spots the trail is a little more obvious. The slide is completely overgrown, mostly covered in dirt, debris, and moss. There are no views from it until you're past the old slide and above treeline. Should not be attempted unless you like bushwhacks or are with someone who has been up it. Wear long pants, cap, glasses, long sleeves or you will get cut up. Sphinx Trail is steep and wet, water crossings are ok, trail is easy to follow but needs some more trimming back below treeline to first crossing.

Comments: The Great Gulf is a steep, wild, and wet adventure! Pics / Report
