Date of hike: 1/24/09
Trail conditions: packed until trail comes close to the ski trail, at which point the LT is unbroken and the tracks lead out onto the ski trail. Between Jay Peak and Big Jay is actually better packed than the LT up Jay Peak.
Special Equipment: snowshoes
Comments: Dropping temps and strong wind made for a cold hike. I did better than I expected at 5 months pregnant. I'm not sure what the deal is with the Big Jay ski trail; lots of skiers were going out to the summit and then on down a trail that went off to the left just before the actual summit, including a group of what appeared to be Jay Peak employees. This was in spite of a sign that said "closed" at this point. I had thought the trail down from Big Jay was illegal, but perhaps that is a different trail.
