Yesterday, Thursday, my friend and I, along with our three dogs hiked up to the Jim Liberty Cabin on Mt Chocorua. The weather was about 45 degrees and overcast when we started. We encountered rain and eventually snow on the way up. The trail is very wet and all water crossings are wide open! The last 1.5-2miles were hard packed snow that was melting fast underneath and along the sides making it a challenge to stay on track. At the cabin we found loads of garbage! I loaded a bag and carried out some of the trash, but there is more up there! .The weather on top was around 20 degrees with pretty strong winds. We layered up and ate, then headed back down with memories of Old Man Winter in our minds. We barebooted the whole way. I dont think traction would have made much of a difference as the snow was to wet and mushy as the day went on. (we started out around 10am) Could have used gaiters and galoshes! Happy Spring Hiking All!
