After a day of running to the store, yard work and expecting it to rain at any minute I decided to go for a quick hike to Gap Mt. with my daughters. After a quick stop for some Snickers (or should I say coaxing materials) We arrived at the southern lot and as quick as lightning my girls were out of the car and down the trail leaving dad in their dust.
After about ten minutes I caught up to the trio with Sarah(9) leading the pack with Cassie(7) and Paige(3) closely behind. I had a good laugh as Paige would stop at each rock, no matter how big, climb it and then jump while saying "holy moly" with a huge smile on her face.
When we arrived at the stream we began the frog hunt. Saddly we only spyed one. From past experience I decided to carry Paige across the stream and the adjacent muddy area. So far she is the only member of our family that has not fell in it at least once.
At the field we stopped, had some water and watched the butterflies dancing above the flowers. We continued the upward march. Getting to the stepper sections Paige began to ask for a little help. Her older sisters showed her the easier routes up the "cliff" areas. These just look like cliffs for little ones.
Shortly after the steep stuff we arrived at the top. Sarah and Cassie went to their favorite overlooks while Paige and I had our snickers. Paige was proud to point out and say "Moonanock" which I always get a chuckle from.
On the way down I told Paige about the all important "bum slide" I guess from then on she thought the trail was just on big slide. I just hope the dirt stain it left will come out.
Toward the end of the hike we began the "hide behind a tree" thing to keep Paige entertained. I found it ironic that as soon as she spotted the car she had enough energy to race her sisters to it. On the way back home Paige said "I don't want to hike Gap, I want to hike Moonanock next time"
The joys of hiking with my daughters.
