There were 10 of us in 4 cabins at The Beacon in Lincoln this weekend; us and my wife's sister and most of her family. Saturday we gathered, relaxed, hot-tubbed and socialized. Sunday 2 went snowmobiling and tubbing, 4 went snowboarding at Loon and the other 4 of us; me, my wife, older son and niece, were looking for something "reasonable" to do. They trust me, so I suggested Lonesome Lake and the hut, with the possibility on North Kinsman.
We got a later start from Lafayette Campground after a relaxed morning. It took some time for me to help everyone with "their" (my) various traction devices; 2 pair of snowshoes, StabilIcers and an old pair of crampons and I think we were hiking through the campground by about 10:30. After getting through the parking lot, tunnel, attachment of the traction and campground, by the time we got to the actual trail, my niece (a 24 year old nurse in Manchester NH) proclaimed "Crap. We haven't even started the hike yet !"
So it would just be a nice hike up to and across the lake, lunch at the hut and a return back to the campground, so that we had plenty of time to hit the hot-tub and pool before the game. A good morning hike in the winter with my family.
