Trail Conditions
Kane Mountain via southern route: The trail is a little soft in the lower elevations, but there is very little mud. No blowdown and no other trail challenges, a very easy trail.
Pillsbury Mountain: The trail is quite muddy at points in lower elevations, but dries out very quickly. At higher elevations there are lots of exposed wet rock, so slipping is quite likely. There are LOTS of mosquitoes, swarms of them. They don't let up until about 10 minutes from the summit.
The road into Pillsbury is quite rough. The first half to "Old Military Road" is very good, but it goes downhill from there. There is lots of washout, mud, exposed rocks, and deep ditches. A high-clearance car and/or great driving skills would be very helpful.
Wakely Mountain: The trail is very muddy in spots, and wet feet are unavoidable (unless you go off the path and thus cause further widening of the trail ) The rocks at higher elevations are quite wet, and there is lots of slipping potential. The blackflies are RUTHLESS, and were swarming and biting even while hiking fast.
The access road is quite muddy after afternoon rain, but very easy to drive.
Special Equipment Required
BUG NET and/or BUG SPRAY! Waterproof shoes would be helpful after the rain this afternoon.

A beautiful morning hike. The lowlands were covered with mist, which created a fantasy-like panorama. You can go into the actual firetower on Kane and Wakely, though both appear somewhat unsafe (especially Wakely). The bugs were non-existent at 5am, but progressively became worse until you had to run to stay ahead of them (by 12:30pm). All water crossings are easy as water levels have lowered to regular levels. The temperatures became quite warm by the end of the day, and after a large downpour the sun won and shone brightly. Only 3 fire towers left til I'm done with the challenge
