Road had been skied and we followed the tracks until we were overtaken by a couple of snowmobiles, whose tracks we then used. They drove to just below the summit and, as a result, we were able to ski partway up the Rollins Trail and hike the remainder. Snow on the road is getting thin in places and I would expect some bare spots in the sun by the end of the day. There is some major slush on the Rollins Trail that will turn to ice if it cools off. No sign of travel on the other three trails that lead to the summit.
For this route skis are the ticket but it could easily be bare booted.
Great day and conditions. We could see from Monadnock and beyond to the Presidentials and Franconia Ridge. Rapid ski down, too much so at times, but big fun.
