The trails were unbelievably fast today, well packed and wide up to the hut, less wide to the ridge and some blown in snow over well packed up on the ridge. Mt. Kinsman trail looked to be well packed and wide too. I saw signs of bareboots, microspikes (which is what I used), stabilicers, snowshoes and crampons. A few big blowdowns but all easily ducked under (maybe one requiring knees) and one step over. The drainages were pretty much ice or snow. Some wind up on the ridge but I put the baclava on only nearing S. Kinsman so I could also have a snack. Great boogie down with microspikes trying to keep up with the mighty tough little dog. Didn't see many people, especially for this set of trails, but Pepper was delighted to meet the very nice couple from Glencliff that we met on the Hancock ridge 3 weeks ago. Almost no views for us on top but we stepped on that lever again while leaving the North peak and in a short while the clouds opened up. Pepper and I give thanks to all the people who packed this trail for us.
