Date of Hike: 10/21/13
Trails: Old Bridle Path, Greenleaf, Franconia Ridge, Lincoln Slide Bushwhack, Lincoln Brook Trail, Owl's Head Path, Franconia Brook Trail, Lincoln Woods Trail
Trail Conditions: Old Bridle Path, Greenleaf, Franconia Ridge, Franconia Brook, and Lincoln Woods Trail are all in good shape and easy to follow. Dropped off before Truman summit and over to the slide, at the bottom of the slide it turns into a stream, we stayed in the stream and off in the woods when we couldn't rock hop through the stream. Thick in spots but never too bad, and the woods opened up at the bottom. Hooked onto the Lincoln Brook Trail about a mile north of the slide. All the leaves are now down and cover the trail pretty good but if you pay attention you'll be able to stay on the trail with no issues. Owl's Head path is marked by a cairn with an orange glove. The slide has two ways up it half way through, to the right in the woods or to the left to stay on the slide. Above the slide the trail is steep with rough footing. From the old to the new summit there are a few herd paths, stay on the one that looks the most beaten down obviously and you'll get there faster! Lincoln Brook trail water crossings were all low and rock hop-able, Franconia Brook Trail crossings were low and rock hop-able.
Comments: Owl's Head was Whitney's 48th peak and what a way to finish it! Congrats Whitney on a great accomplishment, way to finish with a bang! Denise and Bob and Dusty made for great company on a long and beautiful hike in the Pemi. The weather was absolutely perfect for a late October day, awesome day out! Report / Pictures
