All trails in the woods had a firm, well-packed surface, softening a bit on top as the day went on. Above timberline there were long stretches of hard ice as well as bare rock. Crossings were all well bridged. No significant blowdowns on the loop.

Snowshoes were not needed but some traction is recommended. Three of us wore Microspike ST's car-to-car and the others alternated between Microspikes and crampons. Microspikes were overmatched at the icy, steep area just below the summit of Lafayette on Greenleaf but perfect for the rest.

Another stunning day. We made good time up Lafayette but then succumbed to the day and spent lots of time enjoying the rest of the trip. Side trip to Shining Rock highly worthwhile. Really fun day with smiles the rule. Amy's Hit-On-Me Pink jacket was apparently lost on fellow hikers, though. Nice to see Sue H. and meet Garrett. As a side note, it appears Matthias is OK!
