Date of Hike: 2/13/2010
Trail Conditions: Firm trail all the way up save a handful of very small/short sections of semi-soft/soft snow. Upper portion of Greenleaf had thin layer of snow on either ice or rock. One or two very easily bypassed blowdowns early on the OBP.
Special Equipment Required: Some kind of traction very helpful, though probably could be barebooted with care. I wore snowshoes for the first 3/4 and crampons for the last 1/4 of the ascent, then crampons for the first 1/2 of the descent and barebooted the remainder. Microspikes may have been the best overall choice for the entire hike. As always, I found my poles to be indispensable, but they are certainly not a requirement.
Comments: Amazingly beautiful day with mild weather. I think I bumped into the group that posted the "Winter on Lafayette..." trip report (pretty sure I was the hiker that mentioned the rainbow when you guys were about 1/4 mile from the summit -- nice meeting you!). The rainbow was faint but you can see it in the photos or video below.
Photos (rainbow is image 7, I think): http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=199089&id=567365409&ref=mf
Video of rainbow on the way up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EqpG_TFtBE
Also visible in this summit video toward the end (20 sec. in): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVVciMRx77M
