We parked at the Basin lot. Liberty Springs Trail and Franconia Ridge Trail to Liberty's summit were hard-packed, in really good shape. FRT to Flume was a little softer with a few spots of blown-in snow. Crossings were all solid and there were no bad blowdowns. Snow is deep enough between the peaks to put one in the trees. All intersecting trails appeared broken out.
We wore Microspike ST's to Liberty and switched to snowshoes on the way to Flume, mainly to preserve the perfect trail surface. After the return to Liberty, we descended in bare boots, hardly leaving a print.
Perfect day, much better than predicted, with constant sunshine and light winds. Views were terrific. Nice to actually feel the sun at lunch on Flume. We've not seen better winter trail conditions than during the last several hikes.
