One of Ed Hawkins' "grid" hikes
We all wore 'shoes for most of it, though bare boots with a little traction ('icers or 'spikes) would have worked just fine. Lower portions of Liberty Spring Trail were hard packed snow with some open, wet, rocky patches. Above 2500' was all packed snow and a little ice in places (particularly Liberty summit). Stream crossings were all open and flowing, but not too difficult to rock hop.
Franc Ridge was all hardpack. The section heading north toward Little Haystack looked broken out.
