Trail Conditions: Liberty Springs is well stamped out…like a highway. Franconia Ridge Trail, from its intersection with Liberty Springs heading towards Liberty & Flume, is also well broken out. Franconia Ridge heading north from the Liberty Springs junction hasn't seen heavy traffic recently.
Special Equipment Required: We strapped on snowshoes at the trailhead and kept them on all day….best way to preserve the condition of the trails. Most folks we met did the same. A few hikers who had come up Flume Slide continued to chuff down Franconia Ridge in crampons.
Comments: Not a lot of sunshine up on the Ridge this trip but long views in all directions. Saw 8 folks on the trails. Good luck to the guy we met at the junction of Franconia Ridge & Liberty Springs who’s training for a winter prezi traverse!
