March 17: This is a bushwack on a small peak in the S. Adks--I followed the description by B. McMartin, Discover the Southern Adirondacks. An informal trail to Woods Lake starts on the Benson Road. Woods Lake is still frozen and we crossed it easily on snowshoes. There is deep, granulated soft snow in the woods so snowshoes are essential. A map and compass are essential to follow McMartin's directions and find the summit. It took us about 2 hr. to locate the viewing ledges on the SW, 10 more minutes to get to the summit. A nice half-day outing.
