Well, I needed a good nights sleep and where do I go? Where else? The neversink. But not before a leisurely stroll from Lone to Friday.

Spectacular Weather! Great trail-less conditions.

Two thoughts on Day one that were amusing me frequently : What an amazing day...I wonder where everybody is?

- and - The general thought of - Wow, it's nice not having to bag any peaks (required for the 3500 foot club etc...been there blah blah...) and to really enjoy a nice long walk in some of my favorite mountains. YES!

Oh, and a third----> Can't wait to crawl into my hammock. :)

As I said, the day was great. On top of Lone I bumped into Hermit. And we were going the same way. So onward to Rocky, Balsam Cap and Friday. Good Stories, Good Conversation, Good Company, Great Weather and all the time in the world to enjoy every minute of it.

Now, what is the anatomy of a trip report? I Don't Know. I am reporting that My trip was great. No snow, no rain, no wind, clear skies no trail to speak of....for most of the way.

So, after Friday Hermit went his way and I went mine.

Slight Aside: On our way up to Friday, we came across two old worn Fanny packs strapped together. A few empty beer cans littered the herdpath. Hermit determined the fanny packs were packed with trash. Well, whoever left their garbage in our back yard, UN COOL MAN!

IF it fell off of someones pack and you didn't realize it until too late or if it was an accident, you can all thank Hermit for Hauling it out.

So, whenever I am re-doing a peak, I try to do it a different way, just for the enjoyment of it.
Now, in my limited experience, I have managed to climb Friday 5 times. I never descended Friday the way I did this trip.
I back tracked a few hundred yards the way we came in. Slightly southwest from the canister. then headed west. My thought being I didn' want to descend too far but just enough to get to the beginings of the col between Balsam Cap and Friday. Then Head West to the neversink. Well, I did all of that and found the goings to be extremely hard. Very dense, slow, painful, a nice run of ledges to navigate around and then finally at around 2900 feet it was much easier goings. In other words "I never had so much fun" :D

I arrived at the neversink just where it turns from flowing south to east bound , I made my way in a few hundred yards and declared Campsite.

However, I was hoping to bump into a few AMC friends I knew were going to be in the general vicintiy so I meandered eastward for a while in search of them. I never found them, I did meet an older hiker who was coming down from Balsam Cap and he was heading to the denning PA. I asked him, if he stumbled upon my friends to tell them where I was. I headed back to the Campsite I had picked out, set up my hammock and got ready to relax for the remainder of the evening. Well, they showed up! We had a great time.
The night was peaceful and quiet and with the constant conversation of the neversink lulling me to dreamland, well, I got my good night's sleep.

In the morning we headed up north along the side of the neversink up to the trail pretty much midway between Slide and Cornell.
We parted company. Up to Cornell, I went, and back over Slide, and eventually out to the Denning PA.

What a great weekend.
:D

Hi Zero-G,
It's sounds like you had a great evening in the Neversink. It was nice to share the trailless with you. I never did haul out the garbage from the fanny packs that we found abandoned. I opened one up and it was not too pleasant. If I had my other napsack which I carry a garbage bag, I would have taken it out.I may just go back up there and do that , but I will not have a chance for awhile. Maybe if someone reads this in the mean time they can take care of it.I mentioned it on trail conditions also..
