Hi Folks,

I'm planning to do a section of the Long Trail departing 5/31 after work and returning 6/3. I have secured the holy grail of LT hikers, a ride to the difficult to access northern terminus of the trail! I will be hiking south towards Rte 15/Johnson. I'll be averaging 13-16 miles a day which I would call moderate. I'm a friendly 35 year old male from Burlington VT and former AMC hut caretaker. I would love some company! :)

Too bad you didn't notice my trip thread when I announced my plans on VFTT back in March, so you could have had company. I am stretching this over 5 days and I have a group of 12 signed up for this trip from Sat. May 26-30 (5 days). So we will clear the path for you and are doing the exact same hike along the LT from the Canadian border to VT 15 (Johnson, VT) southbound. If there are any exceptional obstacles that you need to be aware of, check your PM's, I'll send you a Private Message Wed. night, May 30, between 8-10 PM. Meanwhile while I'm gone let me know if you have specific questions you want answered and e-mail me back. You can e-mail me at: [email protected] . So I will give you a quickie trail report on my return. Have a good trip.

I would have loved to have done this. My long weekend doesn't start for another hour or so though. :( Have fun.

Just got back from my hike along the LT from the Canadian border. The trail is in excellent shape. No serious blowdowns to negotiate. No major streams to negotiate. Shelters, camps and cabins are in immaculate shape! Negatives (minor ones at that) are: North slope of Jay Peak still has some snow on the trail (patches in places) above 3,000 feet. I did not have gaiters on and was OK. Once the snow came in my boots. But the snow will be soft and occaisionally you might sink in and posthole. May be gone by now, but I doubt it. Muddy places and most plank boardwalks were rotted beyond usefulness. Watch out for nails. Near Carleton Mountain on first day, I fell off a log and sank in to my knee in muck! Haystack, Belvidere and Shelter after Devils Gulch (southbound) are the three spurs off the trail worth visiting. Journeys End Road you really sould have an SUV or park further down the road. One of our cars in our shuttle hit rock bottom. Be careful with your car there. And lastly, one member of our party lost a digital Cannon camera between Corliss Camp and Laraway Mt. summit. If you find it along the trail, please let me know. Lost between 9-10 AM, Mon. 5/28.
