Conditions: We made it almost to the col between the "jaw" and the true summit. We began with slippery wet leaves and slippery wet dirt. There was 1-3 inches of wet snow on the trail much of the way, and up to 5 inches in spots. No ice to speak of. The trees were laden with wet snow. The last rock drop-off before the col caused us to pause and reconsider. One of our party had used this route before, and knew what was ahead. We did not relish ascending nor descending the final pitches, hanging onto wet tree roots with snow falling down from trees in our faces. We were very glad to be wearing high, waterproof boots and/or gaiters. Waterproof gloves were great. Temperature up there was below freezing, ice crystals were forming in our water bottles.

Equipment: Waterproof boots, gaiters, waterproof gloves. Shell with hood if snow falling out of trees likely.
