Trail Conditions: Heavily postholed from trailhead to Link Junction. Slightly better from Link to Log Cabin, better above Log Cabin. Trail well broken out and plenty of snow for the most part. Depth to a couple feet at lower elevations but the depth stake at Grey Knob shows 9 feet of ground snow at about 4400'. Snow was soft all day.

Special Equipment Required: Wore snowshoes door to door today. Sunglasses helpful early on, gaiters would have been very beneficial later in the day. Waterproof gear helpful; lots of wet snow.

Comments: No real suprises on Lowe's Path. Randolph Path, Link, King Ravine trail not broken out from Lowe's junction but a group of 5-6 had broken out the Hincks Trail. Made an attempt to find the Perch but looked as though many cairns along the Gray Knob trail were buried. Saw one still exposed. Crossed the snowfields westerly (above the Grey Knob Trail) staying above treeline and above the Perch with the plan to descend north to hit the Perch. Ran into some spruce trap issues at treeline and with dwindling daylight opted to head back over toward Lowe's Path and head out. Had heard a shovel might be needed for the Perch as it might be mostly buried but never was able to verify. Spring between Crag and Grey Knob running well and well shoveled out (this is an interesting sight in itself). Turned into a day hike with an overnight bag.
