Date of Hike: 12/25-6/08
Trail Conditions: Unbroken (except for me coming and going) rain soaked and refrozen snow. Without floatation you sink in to mid-shin, with floatation it's only an inch or so. Rootville Rd. is a frozen and icy snowmobile track. Ice storm damage minimal. About three places where you must detour around some fallen treetop. Most of the detouring involved snowless sections of trail melted out from the recent rains.
Special Equipment Required: I used skis and snowshoes. I recommend them over bare-booting which, though more work, is certainly possible.
Comments: Spruce Peak shelter has copious amounts of available firewood from the ice storm.
