The herd paths on these mountains are in pretty good shape. The second half of the herd path from near the Slide Brook lean-to to the Macomb slide is new and in great condition, and keeps hikers out of the brook near the base of the slide. That path is so good now that my daughter and I made it to the Macomb summit an hour faster than I did on my last trip. The path from S. Dix to E. Dix had a bit of side growth and a lot of mud. The path from S. Dix to Hough, and then down the Lillian Brook trail to the red-marked Dix trail is in excellent condition with very little blowdown, and a very nice soft base. Total hike time was just under twelve hours.
