In principle this is a lens extender which is an excellent, low cost solution to macro photography. If you value your time, and I do, you would probably be better served by buying an inexpensive, yet good quality set of extension tubes. This is just one example which I use. These will maintain your camera's auto exposure which will save you the hassle of manual exposure.

As already has been noted the Pringles can gadget is a homemade extension tube. Interesting project that calls for an appreciation and understanding of basics about how photographic optics work. Thanks for passing it along.

I’ve used extension tubes, bellows sets and macro lenses for closeups. My favorite quick and dirty setup, though, has been dipoter (magnifier) lenses, which fit over the front element of the camera lens, like a filter. Very compact and straightforward to use.
