I had a few miles to make up on the AT just north of Baldpate, having missed them two weeks ago. So, Dave & I headed up to Maine to grab those couple of miles and take advantage of the wet weather to check out some waterfalls.

We headed up the AT from East B Hill Road and climbed south most of the way up Surplus Mountain, where I got off the AT the last time. After heading back down to Dunn Notch, we took the Cascade Trail in order to check out all of the Ellis River waterfalls, which were incredibly beautiful... particularly the lower falls.

On our way back home we decided to check out Mother Walker Falls and Screw Auger Falls, which are right off the road in Grafton Notch. We weren't all that impressed with Mother Walker Falls (it paled in comparison to those on Ellis River) but Screw Auger was just amazing. Of course, the sun came out as we headed home... but nonetheless it was an enjoyable rainy day hike.

Pictures from the trip are here

Great pics Ivy! And - I think my first sighting of a VFTT shirt perhaps?

This is certainly waterfall season.

Next time you're in the area, check out Step Falls, located just south of Grafton Notch Park. It's a 1/2 mile walk to the falls which have great swimming holes and views.

Almost hate to tell people about this place, but I can trust you guys :D

Thanks for the tip, Quietman! I'd like to head back up to Grafton Notch to hike up to Table Rock (couldn't convince Dave to throw that one in on Sunday since the weather wasn't so hot.) I'll be spending lots of time in Maine this summer, so I'll definitely have to check Step Falls out.

Table rock is also a great place fun. The trail is quite steep but short, or use the AT and side path.
