trails: main trail, major-straight back link, brook trail
conditions: main trail to start of ledges mostly dry. some snow/ice on the lower portion of the ledges. used the ledge detour as the snow was hard and i didn't carry traction. major-straight back link a mix of dry trail, mud, and some sections of snow/ice particularly on the last climb up to straight back summit. brook trail snow covered up high then wet and muddy in sections.
equipment: no special equipment needed.
comments: despite years of hiking this was my first time on mt. major. i see what all the fuss is about. a great climb and stunning views. straight back was nice as well. looking forward to doing some more hiking in the belknaps.
