Conditions: Trail above the junction to Phelps is increasingly icy (and, therefore, difficult) until treeline is reached at which point there is no ice and it is just snow (and not deep) and much easier than the ice below.
Equipment: Traction aids highly recommended until trail thaws again or it snows more. My group made it to the top without them, just had hiking poles, but it was rather rough (and slow going).
