On Saturday 7/18 we hiked from upper works parking lot to summit of Marshall, and encountered mud most of the way. Carrying full packs and stopping to set up camp at flowed lands (and spending 30 minutes going in a big circle by accident) it took us about 6.5 hours to get to the summit, then another 2 to get back to camp. Definatley doable as a day hike, but muddy conditions are sure to slow things down. Bugs were tolerable when moving, but were an annoyance any time we stopped to eat (even with bug spray on). There are great views from the summit if you just follow a short, fairly well defined path (30ft?) through the brush.
