Massachuseuck Trail (Blue Hills)

What happened to the Massachuseuck Trail (orange blazes) in the Blue Hills? It was a very nice "destination trail" (in the lingo used by the DCR), like the Skyline Trail but less focused on summits. For me its main attraction was that it allowed me to make a very nice loop between Hillside Ave and Rt. 28, going one way by the Skyline, and returning by the Massachuseuck Trail.

Yesterday I noticed that there were no blazes along a short section of it that I hiked, and today I found that it had disappeared from their online map.

My map dated June 2006 has it, and I was able to trace all the component trails on the new map. It looks like they dropped the overall designation when they added the new loops. I found this blog post and the DCR press release. No comment on why.
