Yesterday was an awesome fall day. Marty, Ray, and myself had been planning to do the Carters last Sunday but the rain kicked in.
The three of us departed about 5:45 after having breakfast at McDonalds. By the time we came into the parking lot on the Imp Trail it was close to eight o'clock.
A great day lay ahead of us and we made to South Carter. The landscape was frost covered trees and a small dusting of snow. In the valley below it was autumn, and it seemed it was two worlds meeting. We had views into the Balfaces and it was gorgeous. There we arrived at last to our final peak, Middle Carter and we made out way down. We came to the end of our hike at the end of the 19 Mile Brook Trail. By now the sun was out and was cool. Marty went off on his Razor scooter down to the other trailhead, and came back in his car.
For those wishing to venture into the Carters should be aware of several manageble blowdowns. Rocks are slippery and the rivers and streams are trickling at their best.

Sounds like a good day to me, I love the ridge between South and Middle Carter. Absolutely gorgeous views!

From visual today, the Wildcats, Carters, Moriahs, Imp and Hight showed no snow or rime. "Possible reflection from early morning ice" disappeared before 1100 hrs. The current "Full Winter, watch out" line seems to be at about 4300 to 4600 depending on both compass aspect and wind speed at altitude.

The west side of Pinkham is locked up in crazy stuff. The east side is pretty clear.

Great report. I made it to middle Carter today, but from the other direction. the views were nice, especially with the snow on the Presis. There was no snow whatsoever today on Middle Carter. Washington awaits! :D
