trails: nineteen mile brook, carter dome, carter moriah
conditions: after today this whole route should be pretty well packed. nineteen mile is very hard packed, but up on the ridge it's enjoyable snowshoeing. a few nuisance blowdowns. the carter moriah trail is rough in spots, particularly going up over hight and towards carter dome due to mixed types of footwear being used. trail is broken north of middle carter as well. i believe from a group coming in over moriah, but it may just go to north carter trail.
equipment: i wore snowshoes all day. nineteen mile really needs nothing, but heading up to the ridge snowshoes make sense. only spot where crampons seemed useful would be the descent (or ascent) of the steep part of carter moriah up from the notch, but snowshoes worked fine.
comments: beautiful day. i really like the carter range. some great moody views with blowing clouds and fog coming through.
