Up the White Dot Trail, down the White Cross; these are the only trails open so far, as the park works on clearing up after the December ice storm. (The park is not charging a fee because of the lack of open trails!! I gave them a $10 donation.) Left the parking lot at 10:40, reached the summit just after noon. The trail is well-packed, lots of traffic, and there seems to be ice under the snow in most places. The summit cone is entirely covered with clear ice. It would be impossible – for me – without crampons. Met a couple at the summit just in time to take their picture and they took one of me. Headed down at 12:20 and reached the bottom at 1:30. High overcast the whole time and a pretty brisk wind on top. Saw no birds. Tracks of snowshoe hares. Also squirrels, fishers, possible coyotes and bob cats. Quite a few other hikers, nearly all geared up for the summit.
