This is a notice that a crew of us repositioned two bridges on the MSGT today that had been swept downstream by floodwaters.

The first was over Bog Brook, near the junction of the trail with the Bradford-Washington Road (after it leaves the north side of Lovewell Mtn). This brook can be tricky to cross unless the water is very low. The bridge, of PT wood weighing over 500 lbs, had to be hauled 100 yds back to its correct positon.
Thanks to all who helped! See my website for photos of the action.

The second bridge, of natural wood, was over a brook north of Center Pond in Stoddard. Both bridges were cabled to trees, to prevent them being swept away.

Happy Hiking on the Greenway! :)

Great pictures!!

Thanks for putting things back where they belong! Any and all bridges are very much appreciated. MSG is a wonderful trail.

Sorry there aren't any full-face photos! They were all "working" pics, none posed. Those of you with trail work experience can probably ID many of the culprits in the pics with no trouble.

You can't tell from the pics, but I actually did some grunt work myself! :D

It was also very fortunate that nobody got injured. With an event like this, there is always potential for injured feet, toes, fingers.

Sunday I had hike up to Mt Sunapee via Lake Solitude. On the
way I passed a trail junction which show a side trial to Newbury.
Would you know were and how to get to that trialhead?
~Dave

DaveSunRa - That side trail is part of the Sunapee-Ragged-Kearsarge Greenway. Pretty much starts near the Newbury PO, Newbury Info booth and town dock right off route 103. The website below has maps and trail description on it if you are interested. I'm slooowly chipping away at the SRKG and that is the next section we'll be hitting.......this week hopefully!

Michelle - Thanks for the info and Link. Going to check out the Newbury trail, maybe this weekend.

thanks again

id like to do this trail also. i read about this 65 yo lady who hiked the 48 miles in 16 hours. i wouldnt think i could do something like that. perhaps i should try

hikerfast - Good for her!!
Not that I would try to run it, but the MSG has lots of roadwalking (making for faster miles) It is a beautiful trail when in the woods though, the area around Lucia's Lookout, Lovewell Mtn and Moose campsite are wonderful!

Of the sections of the SRKG that I've done..........there's lots of roadwalking on this trail also, which is fine by me, every trail is unique in its own way.
