trails: ammonoosuc ravine, crawford, monroe loop
conditions: ammo packed to treeline. some butt trenching on the steep sections above gem pool which made for difficult snowshoeing in spots. above treeline blown in, but old tracks evident in places. past hut is mix of ice, rock, snow.
equipment: full above treeline gear. wore snowshoes on ascent to hut. crampons to monroe summit and kept them on for descent past gem pool for extra traction in the glissaded areas.
comments: wanted a nice half day hike and being that monroe was the only presidential range peak i hadn't climbed in winter it seemed a good choice. overcast, but summits were in the clear. relatively light winds and great views.
