It was one of those last minute plans that just works out.

After missing hiking last week due to weather, the wife calls me at work Friday and tells me to try and get out to take advantage of the weather. Made the decision later Friday night to meet Rols (Paul) at the Edmands Path to join him on his hike to Monroe and maybe Eisenhower. We met Bob, a VFTT member in the lot and convinced him to join us after the usual We Are Slow warning. Headed up to the Ammonousic Ravine to start.

Barebooted early on- ice started fairly early but there had been new snow and footing was good. We took the side path to check out the dueling waterfalls after the Ammo starts getting steep. Great spot. Shortly before breaking above treeline ice turned harder and we struggled a little on our stabilcers but not enough to warrant crampons.

Lunched at the Lakes- sky was crystal clear, maybe 10MPH winds at that time. Saw two people skiing down from Washington by the Lake of the clouds. Headed to Monroe and from there to Eisenhower Junction it was just non-stop pictures and view mongering. Took off stabilcers at Lakes.

Passed Jessbee and Sleeping Bear after descending Monroe, then passed a couple from Montreal. Kind of a funny scene seeing the gentleman with a tin cup scooping water from runoff to put in their nalgenes- nice folks.

Made the decision to run up Ike- much too nice not to. Descending around the Edmands path before the hard right turn was tricky as the slushy snow as at an angle so we donned stabilcers again. At that time, we passed three young folks- what I saw was one in Jeans, one in Soccer sneakers and who knows what else they had on. But, they didn’t seem to mind the slipping and falling and were having a good time- hopefully they had no trouble.

Took off the Stabilcers well above 3000ft. Gentle stroll back to the cars.

We really enjoyed the day, stopping so often for pictures, talking or just enjoying the sites. Good people, weather and the Whites are a recipe for a good time. Some pix are here- http://community.webshots.com/user/detroit9

If you were lucky enough to be out and up there on this day you really enjoyed something special. If not, I hope you get the chance soon.

Just one of those amazing days....a one in a hundred days on top of the Presidentials. A great trip with you and Bob.

Great report and pictures. I was really glad you could make the trip

Nice TR. Conditions this weekend were ideal for all sorts of outdoor activity! I spent Sunday in the Ravines and summitted Washington for the 4th time, my warmest at 52*F. I have a nice neck/chin burn today from the amount of sun reflecting off the snow.

Mike- don't worry, we'll get an even better day next time out.

Sunburn, ah yes, a bit of that myself on the hands and head. I'll take it any day :)

Oh, and one other thing I didn't mention- NO BUGS! Great stuff
