Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail is pretty good blowdown-wise other than the 50-or-so yard section that is a tangled mess off downed trees as a result of an avy this past winter. This section is just before reaching Gem Pool. An easy stream crossing and short bushwhack bring you out into the main avy path after refinding the trail through that mess. The avy path is amazing.
Avy debris snow still around just below the Gem Pool as well as a couple other small patches, then snow starts as you near treeline. A couple small snowfields just below the hut. Postholing was only a small pain late afternoon.
Above treeline is free and clear. Diapensia, Alpine Azalea, Lapland Rosebay were all very much in bloom all across Monroe Flat and beyond out to Franklin. Now is the time for alpine flowers!
Ammo Ravine Tr. is fairly steep, with amazing footing thanks to many rock steps. Descending it was a breeze! Great to rinse the face in the Gem Pool.
Monroe Loop has got some nice rock steps put in on the hut side since my last visit in 2005.
Views were splendid in all directions, great afternoon out! 33 of 48x2
