met up with nhmtnhiker in plymouth, and drove over to ravine house lodge at the base of moosilaukee. on the way some rocket scientists in a station wagon were parked broadside across both lanes on 118. We went around them and there were 3 moose there. Mom, Pop(very large) and Junior(not very small). Quite a site, long time since ive seen 3 moose in one spot, and rocket scientists as well. Bob took some pics with my camera that I will try to post when I am not half asleep. We started up moose at 6:23 up snapper trail. Very nice, not wet at all really. We hit the carriage road, and it was real nice being in the open, stayed light a lot longer. Love that trail, looks nice to ski down in the winter. We took out headlamps around 7:20 or so. We put on some layers before treeline, and went up to the summit. The wind was really blasting, and it was DARK. Hour and 43 to the top. We didn't feel like getting hypothermic from the wind and cold, so we turned right around. Been a while since I've been in wind like that. After we descended a bit, the wind abated, and we headed down the pleasant carriage road trail, left on snapper, and back to the car.

Hi there,
Sounds like you 2 had a fun time. I would really like to do a few after work myself. Could you let me know what type of headlams you both use? I posted a question, but I want one specifically to do some night hikes. Maybe I could tag along on your next after work hike. ;)

headlamp

I just got a new led one, and its FAR better than they made them 3 years ago. It's a tikka xp i believe, about 45 bucks. this thing shoots a beam 105 feet for 80 hours on highest setting. it has a filter that slides across it that makes the beam go maybe 60 feet and about 150 degrees, so you can see your feet in the dark and everything around you. real nice, makes night hiking without snow so much easier. There was a demo at ems in concord last week and they said after 10 hours the power would be cut by about half, but still real decent.
