We hope to climb Mooselauke by the Beaver Brook Trail on Friday. Anyone know of conditions up there? Would like to leave the snowshoes behind.

A friend at DOC hiked Moosilauke last weekend and said this:

"There's a decent amount of snow below tree line - we were fine on Gorge Brook Trail and Snapper Trail without snowshoes or crampons. The snow was grainy/icey and we sank through on the sides of the trail but were okay on the hard ridge in the middle where hikers have packed down the snow. I'd definitely suggest gaitors though."

Its not Beaver Brook, but I hope it helps.

Pack the snowshoes away.

I've hiked Moose by this trail six or seven times over the last twenty some years on this weekend (the Cdn. May long weekend, always a week before Memorial).

The only spine you're likely to experience are remnants up on top as you skirt around the south side of Blue, then up through the final chunk of trail to treeline; usually the remnants are hard and no big deal.

Have fun.
