There was a dusting of snow at the trailhead increasing to a few inches along the ridge. Lower trail was carpeted with maple leaves, just beautiful. Above treeline, snow had drifted between the scree walls, often to more than knee deep. Ground was generally frozen beneath the snow with no mud or ice. Trees up high were snow-covered. No crossing issues.
We bare-booted and carried Microspike ST's but didn't use them. Poles helpful on the steep, rocky section on the loose snow.
Full winter above treeline, with stiff winds and relatively low temperatures. Great day to hike in two seasons.
