Date Hiked: 01/25/09
Conditions: Plowing stops about 1/4 mile below the trailhead. Trail packed by snowmobiles to the turn around at about 4600'. Remainder had been broken by barebooters.
Special Equipment Needed: I skinned up and skied down with AT gear. Snowmobile tracks were hard from the cold weather... but I was often able to get off to the side into foot deep powder. Could be barebooted but skis or showshoes would be preferable.
Comments: I only had the morning to do this so I left my car solo at 5:15am by headlamp (temp -14F according to my rear view mirror but almost no wind). It took me 2:50 to summit and 4:30 total round trip time moving quickly. Skiing would have been more fun if the snowmobile tracks hadn't frozen so hard...still a fun morning outside. Summit was in the clouds so I only had views to just below the south summit.
