I wanted to do a foliage hike, so based on what I saw last weekend in the Whites and the fact that there has been lots of wind this week, I decided that the Lakes Region was the best place to view foliage right now. Then I decided to check out the Morgan-Percival Loop. Last time I hiked it there were no views at all, so yesterday things were better.

Still, high clouds moved in very fast, and there was definitely a snow sky and lots of virga falling from the clouds. But it made for a dramatic sky and when the sun ocassionally made its appearance, it made the foliage brighten up almost living up to its high reputation. Unfortunately, its been a tough foliage year around here, but some color is better than no color at all.

As for the trail conditions, they were leaf covered, mainly dry, except for areas near running water. There were spots on the trail that still had standing water, but it wasnt anything terrible...I've seen much worse. We passed about 8 groups going up Morgan and then when we made it to the bottom there was a group of at least 35 ready to start hiking. I thought that was illegal....but I was glad we were finished. All in all it was an awesome hike with very nice views. I will have to come back on a slightly clearer day, or maybe for a sunrise/sunset.

Pics are here.....

Morgan-Percival is one of my favorite hikes. Your trip report brought back fond memories. Thanks! I'll have to make a point to get back up there...
